Centronella sp.
Phylum: Brachiopod
Genus: Centronella Species: Not known Location found: uncertain (possibly Reefton) |
Centronella is a genus of brachiopods belonging to the order of Terebtratulida. It is characterised by its elongated oval (teardrop-shaped) outline, narrow, rather rounded ribs, and compact but pointed beak. It was reported and described from the Baton River by Shirley (1938), though only tentatively identified. The origins of this single specimen are not certain, but I believe it to be from the Murray Quartzite, exposed near Reefton. Currrently, therefore, identification is considered very uncertain.
