Cornellites sp.
Class: Bivalvia
Genus: Cornellites Species: Not known Location found: Baton River |
This rather poor speciment comes from the Baton River. Although I believe it to be Cornellites sp., identification is uncertain, and there remains considerable debate about the distinction between this genus and Actinopteria. Descriptions from elsewhere (e.g. Lee McAlester 1962) show Cornellites to be characterised by rather long, splayed shells, with a wide posterior wing, together with fine ribbing and a somewhat flattened profile.
