Reeftonia marwicki
Phylum: Brachiopod
Genus: Reeftonia Species: Reeftonia marwicki Location found: Reefton |
Reeftonia marwicki is one of several Devonian species that took on the geographic name of Reefton, after it had first been described and discovered here. (Its species name honours John Marwick, a palantaeologist who worked for the New Zealand Geological Survey in the first half of the twentieth century.) The species is not easy to distinguish from several others that are found in the Devonian, including Schizophoria provulvaria, with which it has been confused in the past. The identification here is therefore uncertain. Allan (1947) provides a detailed description and images.
