Fossicking - or fossil collecting - is great fun, but it's also a serious activity. Fossils tell a story: about what the world was like millions of years ago, of how it has changed, about how organisms have evolved over time. So they aren't just something to collect and admire, or lock away in a drawer somewhere. They deserve to be studied, understood, and shared. That's why I've built this site. For the same reason, fossil collecting doesn't involve just hacking a specimen out of a rock and taking it home. We need to identify it, record it and preserve it for the future. In this section of the website, I offer some tips on how to do all those things, based on my own experience.
